TCM for Women
Women may experience physical and emotional balances at different stages of their lives - during puberty, childbirth and menopause.
At Raffles Chinese Medicine, our physicians in the Fertility and Women’s Health team will work with you to achieve holistic health.
The Raffles TCM Women’s Wellness Package is a one-session treatment that allows you to experience how TCM can benefit your health.
TCM treatments are available for:
Menstruation Cramps, Menstrual Irregularities and Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
Menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea), menstrual irregularities and PMS are common symptoms women may encounter after puberty. While these symptoms may be tolerable, they indicate underlying imbalances in your body.
Common menstrual irregularities most women experience include irregular period cycles, bleeding between periods, and irregular amount of bleeding.
PMS describes emotional and physical symptoms occurring before a period, including:
- Depression
- Sadness
- Irritability
- Anxiety
- Lethargy, loss of concentration
- Aggressiveness
- Changes in libido and bowel habit
- Acne outbreaks
- Distended abdomen and breasts
- Insomnia
From a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) perspective, these can be caused by various factors, including overwork, emotional stress, excessive physical work (including over-exercising), exposure to cold, closely spaced pregnancies, hereditary weakness in the Kidney system, and surgery.
Our TCM physicians will work with you to help treat your menstrual cycle disorders through a multi-pronged approach. Acupuncture, moxibustion, and Chinese herbal medicine may be used to address the underlying disharmony in the body.
Menopause Management
Women approaching menopause may experience hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, irregular menses, weight gain and slow metabolism. From a TCM perspective, this is due to disharmony between the Yin and Yang of the organs, particularly the Spleen, Kidney and Liver.
A combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can help bring your body back into balance. This will relieve the menopausal symptoms, allowing you to age healthily and gracefully.

Endometriosis
Endometriosis is an often painful disorder where the endometrium, a tissue that lines your uterus, grows outside of it. Women with this condition may have their endometrium growing in their ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the tissue lining their pelvis.
The primary symptom of endometriosis is pelvic pain, which may occur during menstruation or sexual intercourse. Acupuncture, moxibustion and Chinese herbal medicine can help shrink and remove some of the smaller endometrium growth.
Childbirth is an extraordinary experience that all mothers go through. While many enter motherhood easily, others may face challenges. This includes experiencing postpartum blues, difficulty in breastfeeding, body aches, or fatigue.
TCM emphasises on the importance of postnatal care to give mothers the energy to relish the joys of motherhood. Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, cupping and Tui Na massage are some of the common TCM treatment methods used to enhance your postpartum well-being.
