GPFirst encourages patients with mild to moderate, non-emergency conditions to visit their GP for prompt care, rather than the emergency department.

How does the GPFirst programme benefit patients?

The GPFirst programme enables many patients to benefit from cost savings and receive appropriate, timely care at participating GP clinics.

Patients with mild to moderate, non-emergency conditions can visit a GPFirst Clinic. If a referral to the Accident and Emergency department (A&E) or Urgent Care Centre (UCC) is given, patients will receive a $50 subsidy towards the A&E or UCC bill.

What are the conditions your GP can treat?

Common conditions (including but not limited to) that your GP can treat:

  • Abdominal pain or indigestion
  • Cold and flu
  • Cuts and open wounds
  • Fever
  • Headaches
  • Hives
  • Insect bites and stings
  • Mild burns and scalds
  • Diarrhoea and vomiting
  • Nosebleeds
  • Sore eyes
  • Strains and sprains

Is GPFirst applicable to CHAS patients, even though they have already received subsidised care at GP clinics?

The subsidy under GPFirst will apply to patients, if they are referred to the emergency department by participating clinics with the original GPFirst Referral Form. This includes patients under CHAS.

How much would I be charged at the participating GP clinics?

Patients will pay the fees charged by their respective GPs.

Terms and Conditions

  1. All Singapore residents, including Permanent Residents and foreigners, are eligible for the GPFirst programme.
  2. This programme applies only to the Emergency Department (ED) / Urgent Care Centre (UCC) of the following hospitals:
    • Changi General Hospital (CGH)
    • Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH)
    • National University Hospital (NUH) (Adult ED only)
    • Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH)
    • Sengkang General Hospital (SKH)
    • Singapore General Hospital (SGH)
    • Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) Emergency Departments (ED)
    • Woodlands Health, Alexandra Hospital Urgent Care Centre (AH UCC) and
    • UCC @ Admiralty.
  3. Patients must attend the ED / UCC within the same day as their GP referral, or by 2.00 am the following day if the referral is issued between 10pm to 12am.
  4. Specialised investigations required and / or non-standard medications prescribed at participating hospitals’ ED or UCC will be separately charged.
