Dr Nelson Chua is a Specialist in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 1990 and received his postgraduate Master of Medicine (Anaesthesiology) degree in 1998. Dr Chua completed his fellowship training in thoracic and vascular anaesthesia at the Department of Anaesthesiology, The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. Dr Chua also has a special interest in Regional Anaesthesia. Dr Chua currently holds dual specialist accreditation in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine from the Ministry of Health (MOH), Singapore.
Prior to joining Raffles Hospital, Dr Chua was a Senior Consultant at the Department of Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain Management of Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He was Executive Director of the 28 Operating Theatres at TTSH from 2009 to 2017. Dr Chua also served as Director of Surgical Intensive Care Unit from 2019 to 2020. During his stint in TTSH, Dr Chua was Chairman of several hospital committees which included the Technological Assessment Committee, Devices and Implants Committee, Infusion Pumps Committee and Value Derived Outcome Committees. He was also past President of the College of Anaesthesiology, Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
Dr Chua was awarded the TTSH Staff Excellence Award (Gold) in 2019.
