Profile:

Dr Francine Yang is a Specialist in Ophthalmology with a subspeciality in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2006 and obtained her Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2011. Dr Yang completed her specialist training in 2014 and was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine. In 2017, she received the National Healthcare Group Health Manpower Development Plan Award, enabling her to undertake a year-long clinical fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at The Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto, Canada.

Prior to joining Raffles Hospital, Dr Yang was a Senior Consultant and Head of the Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Service at the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. She has extensive experience in both clinical practice and medical education.

Throughout her career, Dr Yang was involved in medical education, serving as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at both the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. Her contributions have been recognised with several accolades, including the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2022 and 2024, the National Healthcare Group Teaching Award for Senior Doctors in 2023, and the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Best Teacher Award in the Division of Surgery and Ambulatory & Diagnostic Medicine in 2024. Additionally, Dr Yang was a member of the Core Clinical Faculty for the National Healthcare Group Residency Programme for Ophthalmology and has served as an examiner for both undergraduate and post-graduate examinations. She has also published in international ophthalmology journals and presented at numerous local and international conferences.

Dr Yang’s clinical expertise encompasses a wide range of conditions in both adults and children, including general ophthalmology, eye screening, cataract surgery, and intraocular lens implantation. She has advanced training in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus and is experienced in managing conditions such as myopia, amblyopia (lazy eye), allergic eye diseases, eyelid infections, congenital cataracts, and screening for retinopathy of prematurity in children. Her subspeciality  expertise also includes the evaluation and management of diplopia (double vision) and strabismus (squints).
