Dr Aswini Balachandran is a Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and a subspecialist in urogynaecology accredited by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, United Kingdom. She studied medicine in the King’s College London, and completed her specialty training in United Kingdom. Dr Aswini achieved membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2013, and subsequently completed her urogynaecology subspecialty training before working as a consultant at Medway Maritime Hospital, United Kingdom. Dr Aswini has been a consultant since 2019 and relocated back home to Singapore in 2024.

Dr Aswini is a member of the British Society of Urogynaecology, International Urogynaecological Association, and International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She has a strong commitment to research and audit. Dr Aswini completed a research fellowship in urogynaecology in 2016 and was awarded a Doctorate in Urogynaecology from the University of Kent in 2018. She has presented her work at urogynaecology conferences and received both local and international awards for her research.

Dr Aswini has expertise in managing urogynaecological conditions such as overactive bladder or urgency incontinence, stress incontinence, uterine or vaginal wall prolapse, bladder pain, recurrent urinary tract infections, and obstetric and sphincter injuries. Meeting the needs of women with potentially embarrassing symptoms is her forte and she believes that a urogynaecologist is in a unique position to meet these needs. She offers all pharmacological and both mesh and non-mesh surgical options of treatment. She has particular interest in pelvic floor dysfunction and perineal birth trauma injury. She is trained in specialised endoanal ultrasound and anal manometry, and received a Clinical Excellence Award in 2024 for her work in the Perineal Clinic. Dr Aswini has a keen interest in all aspects of gynaecology, including heavy and painful periods, ovarian cysts, fibroids, adenomyosis, endometriosis, and menopause. She performs laparoscopic, hysteroscopic, and vaginal surgery using minimally invasive techniques, wherever possible, to aid in faster patient recovery.

Dr Aswini also has advanced training in labour care and provides holistic support for pregnant patients based on evidence-based medicine. As a mother of three, she understands the importance of high-quality obstetric care that centres on the woman and her family.
